The National Honor Society Peer-to-Peer Tutorial ProgramThe Vision...• To increase participation in peer to peer tutoring Why get involved in this program?
Although the main goal of this program is to increase learning and to provide help for those who seek it, NHS also offers inside hours for tutors. How do I get involved?Pairings can be initiated by a teacher or the student, simply by filling out the tutorial sign-up sheet in each teacher's classroom.
What is the process? Once a student or teacher has decided to get involved in the tutoring program, a simple 5-step process will pair up a student and qualified tutor for a session. The process involves communication between the student, teacher, NHS officers, and designated NHS tutors, mostly via email. Any NHS member who tutors through the peer to peer program is eligible for inside hours for the time he/she spent tutoring. Bring a standard hour sheet to the tutoring session, and obtain the teacher's signature in the outside hour box. The signature must be documented in this part of the form, but the points will be counted toward inside hours. Return the form to the folder of the officer in charge of the subject within the 30 day deadline. Failue to show up at assigned tutoring sessions will result in being docked twice the hours the tutor would have earned. However if the tutor shows up for a session and stays at least 20 minutes (with teacher confirmation) and the student fails to show up, the tutor is still eligible to receive the expected hours, as long as the proper hour sheet is turned in on time. Tutor Guidelines In order to increase effectiveness of the tutors, here are three guidelines, which tutors are encouraged to follow.
If you have any questions about the tutoring program, please e-mail one of the officers. |
